The bed and breakfast was built in 1905 as the private home of Elizabeth Bridgers. At the time of the construction, Mrs. Bridgers was the widow of Preston Bridgers, who was the son of Robert Rufus Bridgers, the founder of Wilmington/Weldon Railroad Company.

Since it was transformed into a bed and breakfast in 1982, the home has been featured in a number of movies and television shows and, according to published reports, has hosted notable guests like Alan Alda, David Brinkley, Dennis Hopper, Tom Cruise, Peter Falk, Jay Leno and Michael Strahan.

The Graystone Bed and Breakfast is one of the 19 luxury properties listed in New Hanover County during the month of June, but that number is down from the 23 homes that went on the market in June of 2017.

Brunswick County also saw a decline in the number of new listings of luxury homes compared to a year ago. In June of 2017, 11 homes debuted and that number slipped to only five in last month. Pender County had one newly listed home in both June 2017 and June 2018.

The June luxury report suggests prices of high end homes are increasing in New Hanover County, where the number of properties that sold in the month of June was slightly less than a year ago, however the total dollar volume was 33% higher.  In June 2017, eleven luxury homes sold for a total value of $14.5 million. This past June, only ten homes sold in the county, but the total value was $19.3 million.

In Brunswick County, four homes sold for a total value of $5.1 million.  No luxury homes were sold in Pender County during the month of June.
