A new program offers qualified buyers a $2,000 grant toward the down payment of a home through Just For Buyers Realty and Homes4NC Down Payment Assistance.
The grant money is part Homes4NC’s effort to help buyers who meet certain employment and income guidelines purchase their own home. Qualified applicants include local, state or federal government employees or those in the healthcare or education fields. In addition to meeting employment requirements, buyers must complete a HUD approved pre-purchase Homebuyer Education Program and be represented by a certified Workforce Housing Specialist.
Just For Buyers Realty brokers Kathleen Baylies and Linda Mehner have completed the Workforce Housing certification program and are able to aid qualified homebuyers in applying for the Homes4NC Down Payment Assistance program.
Baylies notes the $2,000 grant can be coupled with the tax refund many people receive this time of year to make it much more feasible to overcome the challenge of paying closing costs, a major obstacle for many ‘work force’ buyers. “When you combine the low mortgage interest rates, the lowest home prices in a half-dozen years and a program like the Down Payment Assistance program, buyers have an opportunity that’s not likely to repeat itself in our lifetime,” she says.
Homes4NC is a 501©(3) public charity for the North Carolina Association of REALTORS that works to increase safe, decent and affordable housing for all North Carolinians.
