WILMINGTON, NC – Brisk sales of luxury homes led New Hanover County to its best May numbers ever. High-end homes also saw strong showings in both Brunswick and Pender counties.
Fourteen New Hanover county homes sold for a total of $22.33 million during May. That’s double the sales of May 2016, when seven homes sold for $10.96 million. The previous record for luxury homes sold during the month of May in New Hanover County was twelve in 2005.
In Brunswick County, six homes sold for $8.61 million. That compares to four homes selling for $5.81 million during May last year.
There was one luxury home sale for $1.36 million in Pender County, where it’s not unusual for there to be no luxury sales in any given month. However, this May’s numbers in Pender County nearly match May 2016 when a single home sold for $1.35 million.
“Clearly, a growing number of people are feeling comfortable committing to high-end custom homes,” says Kathleen Baylies, Broker-In-Charge at Just For Buyers Realty. “Based on the number of properties we see going under contract, it’s a trend we anticipate continuing through the summer.”
Of particular note among the luxury home sales in New Hanover County is the sale of 1409 Tidalwalk Drive in the TidalWalk subdivision off Myrtle Grove Road in Wilmington. It is the first home in the neighborhood to sell for more than a million dollars and the third most expensive home to ever sell in the 28409 zip code.
This newly constructed, 5,000 square foot home has five bedrooms, five full baths and two half baths, garages that will accommodate four cars, a wine cellar, and sweeping views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Built by Tongue & Groove Custom Home Builder, this home sold for $2,975,000.
