We were most impressed by the size of the screened porch which is big enough for sitting and dining furniture.  Despite a few cosmetic issues like a fogged window and caulking separating on the kitchen counter and bathroom vanity, we still think this home is a deal. BEST DEAL IN CAROLINA PLACE

Carolina Place is one of the more trendy neighborhoods in Wilmington. The homes were built in the 1930s and ’40s and in the last couple of decades, most of them have been updated and remodeled. This Dutch colonial style home was built in 1940.  The median price per square foot in this area is $175. This home is listed at $143.96.  The current owner has been using it as a vacation home, and it’s only occupied half the time. It’s 1979 square feet with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and original hardwood floors.  A rear deck with an arbor was recently added. You can fit a couple of compact cars in the driveway, but as is the case with many homes in this area, street parking is the norm. Asking price is $284,900.

BEST DEAL ON A HOME WITH AT LEAST TWO ACRES

6314 U.S. Highway 117, Rocky Point

It’s getting more and more challenging for buyers to find a reasonably priced home on a larger piece of land.  This three-bedroom, two and a half bath, 2,815 square foot colonial in Rocky Point fits the bill. It is on three acres, including both wooded and cleared land. It’s a great place for horses, chickens, a large garden or really anything your heart desires.  Inside, the large kitchen is our favorite room in the house. This community has all the amenities you’d expect to find in an upscale development including a community pool, fitness center, and two clubhouses. One of the clubhouses is located on the Lockwood Folly River, the other is an oceanfront property a short drive away in Holden Beach. Fifty-seven homes have been listed in the neighborhood in the last year, and only three were at a lower price per square foot. Two of those three were in flood zones. This one is not. The picture of this bungalow in the Carolina Heights neighborhood does not capture the size of this home. Since 2006, the property has been totally remodeled and expanded.
