Wilmington, NC- The tri-county luxury market ended a very strong year with one of its best Decembers ever. In New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties a grand total of 19 homes, with at least a $1 million dollar price tag, sold during the month. The combined value of those transactions was $28.7 million dollars.
Breaking those numbers down county by county; New Hanover County had a total of eight luxury sales for $13.2 million. Brunswick County recorded six sales for $7.5 million. And Pender County recorded its best month ever with five sales for a combined total of $8 million.
“When we look back on 2019, I think it will go down as the year luxury buyers really discovered Pender County,” said Kathleen Baylies Broker In Charge of Just For Buyers Realty. “New Hanover County had a great year, but it still fell slightly behind the boom years of 05, 06, 07. Brunswick County had an average year. To me the big news was Pender County, which had its best year ever. And to finish with a December like that is not only fitting but it may also be a sign of things to come in 2020.”
The last time the tri-county area had a stronger December was back in 2006 when 21 homes sold for a combined value of $35.6 million.
Another nine luxury homes went under contract during the month. Among those is a property that can lay claim to being one of the oldest in our area. 2601 Shandy Lane is located near Greenfield Loop Road. Over the years it has undergone renovations and expansions, but the original structure dates back to 1750. The four bedroom, four and half bath colonial, went under contract on December 4th, with a listed price of $1,649,000.
