Three female Asian small-clawed otters were born at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher on Saturday, May 21. The Aquarium has been updating the pups progress on a blog and allowed us to share some of these photos. The birth was supervised by NCAFF aquarists Shannon Anderson and Vickie Burgfeld. They both kept a watchful eye for indications of a successful delivery. This is all part of the Aquarium’s continuing efforts on conservation. Guests will have an opportunity to experience the pups in their habitat Otters on the Edge once they are eating solid foods and have become proficient swimmers.
