Carolina Beach, N.C- The award winning food reputation and resume of Carolina Beach is expanding. The New Hanover County town already known for Britt’s Donuts (annually voted one of the second best donut shops in America) and the clam chowder at Michael’s Seafood (multiple winner of regional chowder contests) can now brag about having the best hamburgers in the state.
At least that’s according to Yelp.
Late last month the online review platform said the best burger in North Carolina can be found at the Island Burgers & Bites which operates out of the old Sunoco gas station on Highway 421.
Yelp said it studied every burger stand in America that received multiple reviews on its site. It then ranked the total volume and ratings of reviews from the first half of 2022.
According to Yelp reviewers, Island Burgers & Bites got credit for having “juicy patties loaded with cheese, bacon and other toppings.” The restaurant received four and half stars out of a possible five stars. It failed to get a perfect score because some Yelp users complained that the restaurant does not provide inside seating, which the restaurant had to restrict during the pandemic.
Island Burgers & Bites is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 9pm and on Sundays from 11am to 4pm. The lunch hour crowd typically produces a long line that wraps around the building. For those not in the mood for burgers, the shop also has fries, hot dogs, cheesesteaks and chicken, according to a menu posted on its Facebook page.
