WILMINGTON, N.C.- Another national survey has given the Cape Fear region high marks for folks planning to pick up their lives and move somewhere new.
For the third year in a row United Van Lines has ranked Wilmington in its top 10 cities to relocate to in America. The study found that six out of the top 10 locations were located on the coast with Wilmington taking the overall top spot. Last year Wilmington ranked number 3 in the same study.
The moving company said of Wilmington:
“It’s a port city in coastal southeastern North Carolina. Wilmington features a humid, subtropical climate marked by mild winters and hot, humid summers that bring windy conditions and heavy rains. Boasting a large historic district, vibrant riverfront and picturesque walks along the storied Cape Fear River, it sets the tone with varied, architectural homes and moss-draped, old-growth oaks that line the city’s more than 230-block district on the National Register of Historic Places.”
And while those are nice words, the award is not subjective. It’s just math. The cities were ranked by percentages of long distance, incoming moves versus long distance, outgoing moving. In 2022 81% off all relocations involving Wilmington were folks moving into the area, while only 19% were from folks relocating to another part of the country.
Here are the top 10 relocation cities according to United Van Lines:
- Wilmington, NC
- Bellingham, WA
- Santa Fe, NM
- Myrtle Beach, SC
- Punta Gorda, FL
- Flagstaff, AZ
- Sarasota-Bradenton, FL
- State College, PA
- Eugene-Springfield, OR
- Fort Myers-Cape Coral, FL
