Where most people would see an empty lot, one Oak Island artist sees a canvas.
Travel down East Beach Road in Oak Island, and right in the middle of 55th and 58th street you’ll find his masterpiece. He’s created about a half dozen wooden scarecrows out of organic beach materials. They are commonly called The Guardians of Oak Island- which seems like an appropriate name if you have seen the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. In person these figures kind of resemble the character Groot.
We snapped these pictures on a recent trip to Oak Island. We were unsuccessful in our efforts to locate the artist, but several area residents told us the structures stay up year-round with special decorations for Easter and Christmas.
