June 2023 Newsletter Volume 2

June 2023 Newsletter
Volume 2

Leland, North Carolina, An Age Friendly City

America is getting older. In just a few years one out of every five of us will be above the age of 65 years old. But just because we’re aging, doesn’t mean we can’t be active. That’s why the AARP is working with cities and towns across the country to help make them more age friendly. So far the organization is working with only one town in southeastern North Carolina and the partnership is already paying off. Learn more

Update: Brunswick County Pauses New Construction Fees

We told you earlier this month of a proposal that would have dramatically increased the fees that Brunswick County charges developers to connect to sewer and water lines. It was estimated that measure could have  added as much as $20,000 to the price of a new construction home. This month the county Board of Commissioners put a hold on the  plans until a study can be completed and more accurate projections can be made. Stay tuned for more updates.

The New Property Tax Rates have been Released for 2023

I had a conversation this weekend with a man from northern New York. He lives very close to the Canadian border, nowhere near a major city. He told me that his property taxes are $8,000 a year. Taxes, along with mild winters, have been the main reasons why so many people have been moving to the Cape Fear region. We’ve got the newest property tax numbers for 2023, and they may just give you incentive to start your adventure in this part of the country Learn More.

May 2023 Luxury Report

More than $100 million exchanged hands in the tri-county area of New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties.  A total of 69 luxury homes closed during the month including this Wrightsville Beach mansion. Learn more

A Couple Hopeful Signs for Buyers

Although we are in the middle of a seller’s market, here is good news for buyers: Homes are staying on the market longer than they were last year.  In May the average time a home waited for a buyer was 55 days. A year ago it was only 22 days. Here are some other important stats about the current real estate market.

The Summer Road Trip, Pick Your North Carolina Destination

What would Summer be without a road trip? One of the best parts of living in the Cape Fear region is all the cool options you have for a great weekend getaway. We have five destinations, all within a few hours, that should be on everyone’s list. Learn more.

Get Ready for Five Hours of Reggae

According to the promoters the biggest music event of the summer will not take place at Live Oak Pavilion, Greenfield Lake Amphitheater or even the Wilson Center. Instead they are promising that the venue will be the Marina Grill Pier. Later this month, on June 30th, the restaurant will host five hours of live reggae music. To see other June events check out the JFB community calendar.

Why We Love Living here in June

During June in the Cape Fear region its comfortable, during the morning or evenings, to be outside. The blistering summer heat is still a few weeks away. June is my favorite time to eat at an outdoor café, to take in a ball game or simply to enjoy nature. From sharks, to bees, to a rare double rainbow, and a huge pretzel, here are some of the reasons it feels like we Live On Vacation Everyday! Click here
