Leland, North Carolina, An Age Friendly City
America is getting older. In just a few years one out of every five of us will be above the age of 65 years old. But just because we’re aging, doesn’t mean we can’t be active. That’s why the AARP is working with cities and towns across the country to help make them more age friendly. So far the organization is working with only one town in southeastern North Carolina and the partnership is already paying off. Learn more
Update: Brunswick County Pauses New Construction Fees
We told you earlier this month of a proposal that would have dramatically increased the fees that Brunswick County charges developers to connect to sewer and water lines. It was estimated that measure could have added as much as $20,000 to the price of a new construction home. This month the county Board of Commissioners put a hold on the plans until a study can be completed and more accurate projections can be made. Stay tuned for more updates.
The New Property Tax Rates have been Released for 2023
I had a conversation this weekend with a man from northern New York. He lives very close to the Canadian border, nowhere near a major city. He told me that his property taxes are $8,000 a year. Taxes, along with mild winters, have been the main reasons why so many people have been moving to the Cape Fear region. Get Ready for Five Hours of Reggae
According to the promoters the biggest music event of the summer will not take place at Live Oak Pavilion, Greenfield Lake Amphitheater or even the Wilson Center. Instead they are promising that the venue will be the Marina Grill Pier. Later this month, on June 30th, the restaurant will host five hours of live reggae music.
