Billionaire releases Rendering of his Planned Luxury Hotel
Greensboro-based billionaire Roy Carroll has released to the media art renderings of plans to bring a new luxury hotel to an 11-acre site off Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington. The five-star proposed Westin hotel and spa would cost an estimated $300 million. It would be located at 349 Military Cutoff Road. Plans call for the Westin to have 234 rooms with indoor-outdoor restaurants, as well as a splash pad and lazy river. In addition the property is also expected to feature a lake with an island, a luxury spa, hundreds of apartments, and retail space for what Carroll called upscale brands. Carroll told the local media he would like to break ground on the project by year’s end.
More Townhomes Get Green Lit in Brunswick County
Another housing development has won approval in Brunswick County. The Forest View Townhomes Planned will bring 107 townhomes to southern unincorporated Brunswick County between Shallotte and Carolina Shores. The project is the brain child of Norris and Tunstall Engineering, a Wilmington-based firm. The townhomes will be located along Ash-Little River Road. Plans for the development were approved by the Brunswick County Planning Board at its regular monthly meeting. The townhomes could come to the market in early 2024.
The Ground has been Broken for a Mayfaire Style Project in Carolina Beach
Pleasure Island officials along with builders and others broke ground this month on a new mixed-use development for Carolina Beach. The Proximity project spans 12.5 acres off North Lake Park Boulevard. The blueprints feature multiple restaurants; office, retail and live-work space; a fitness and pool center; and 250 unit apartment complex. Developers hope the project will be completed by summer 2024.
Plans Submitted for Large Commercial Project in Pender County
Developers want to add more commercial space in Hampstead. The Jaytees Properties company submitted development plans to add four commercial buildings to Hampstead Station, which is located off Highway 17 and Headwater Road. Currently the development is anchored by the Food Lion grocery store. According to site plans the four buildings would take up close to 8 acres, with each building measuring 12,000 square feet. The company did not name any possible future tenants but said the space would be used for retail, restaurants and a gym.
Wilmington Air Passengers can add Miami to the Growing List of Destinations
American Airlines has announced a new nonstop destination out of Wilmington International Airport. Starting in November passengers can fly direct to Miami. Other direct options from ILM include Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Tampa Bay, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Baltimore, Newark, New Haven Atlanta, Boston, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, and Dallas.
