Not everyone is a fan of Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs). Some folks prefer the privacy of their own hotel room. But you know what? For many of us, staying at a B&B is like discovering a hidden treasure chest of comfort, charm, and good old-fashioned hospitality. It’s all about that personal touch that welcomes you right from the moment you step through the door. And, let me tell you, most of these places are owned by innkeepers who are practically experts in making you feel like royalty in their own home. Picture this: a warm welcome, homemade goodies, and a beaming smile – that’s the kind of magic that sets the tone for an unforgettable stay.
Now, if you happen to be a fan of these charming B&Bs and you’re planning a trip to Wilmington in the future, guess what? We’ve got some exciting news for you! It turns out we’re home to the best B&B in the whole country, according to none other than USA Today. Just last month, the C. W. Worth House Bed and Breakfast, nestled at 412 South 3rd Street in downtown Wilmington, snagged the top spot in an annual reader’s choice survey by the newspaper.
This historic Queen Anne-style gem was built way back in 1893 and is actually Wilmington’s longest-running B&B. But here’s the twist – it recently got a fresh lease on life when it was acquired by Jeff Mason and Jen Blomberg. They’ve transformed this beauty into a cozy haven, complete with a backyard fire pit and water garden, plus a third-floor game room sporting a billiards table. Oh, and did I mention the perks? Guests get to indulge in a gourmet breakfast and enjoy complimentary wine during the evening social hour.
USA Today’s been doing this B&B ranking thing for ten years now, and they had this to say about our winner:
“The C.W. Worth House Bed and Breakfast has just seven rooms, giving it a cozy, intimate feel. And guests enjoy a farm-to-table breakfast each morning. Plus, the property is close enough to downtown and the Wilmington Riverwalk that you can walk to many restaurants and attractions – and temporarily feel like a local.”
