Wilmington’s got a peculiar traffic jam that’s unlike any other. You might wonder, who in their right mind would adore bumper-to-bumper congestion? Well, it’s the kind of jam that’s hard not to love, and here’s why; there are some really tasy treats at the end of the line.
Every June, the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church hosts its famous Greek Festival, an absolute must-attend event for every local. This three-day fiesta is a lively tribute to Greek culture, traditions, and most importantly, mouthwatering cuisine.
Funding the event entirely through the church and its supporters, they’ve come up with an ingenious way to keep the Greek spirit alive all year round. In November, they set up a drive-thru extravaganza that has cars lining up on College Road. This jam-packed event serves up treats like moussaka, gyros, baklava, and much more. It’s a sight to behold, with one lane virtually shutting down during lunch and dinner times, but trust me, the flavors are well worth the wait.
Mark your calendars for this year’s Greek Festival Drive Thru from November 3rd to 5th, and get ready for a tasty traffic jam like no other. The best part? You won’t even have to leave your car. They’re serving it up from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
