On the north end of Carolina Beach is one of the few spots in the Cape Fear region where you can set up an overnight camp within steps of the Atlantic Ocean.
It’s called Freeman Park.
Campers must have passes to spend the night, and those passes go on sale at a discounted price throughout December.
The 2024 permits will give you the rights to camp at Freeman Park throughout the year. Annual permit purchases made in person from December 1st through December 31st qualify for a $110 discount, plus applicable fees. Starting January 1, 2024, the price jumps up to $225, plus applicable fees.
In December, in-person permit purchases can be made at the Town Hall at 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach. Those wanting to purchase online can visit this site. Permits purchased online cannot be mailed and must be picked up in person at the Town Parking Office location during normal business hours.

2024 permits are valid from the date of purchase and may be used to gain entry to Freeman Park for the remainder of 2023. Please note that payment receipts (paper or electronic) are not valid at the gate and will not grant entry into Freeman Park.
Also, note that Freeman Park Annual Permits must be permanently affixed to the driver’s side of your 4×4 vehicle, and old permits should be removed.
If you have any questions about the purchase of the 2024 annual Freeman Park permit, contact the parking office at (910) 458-4614.
