A Wilmington restaurant has been named one of the best in America by USA Today. Every year, the newspaper releases a roundup of the best eateries in the country. The 2024 list includes 47 restaurants located from coast to coast, representing various cuisines.
“They’re the places we love—a mix of old, new, and in between,” said USA Today. “They’re places with stories to tell, places that should be on your dining bucket list, and, lest we forget, places serving delectable dishes we can’t stop talking about.”
One of the seafood restaurants chosen by the newspaper is Catch, located at 6623 Market Street and owned by Chef Keith Rhodes. R
hodes is no stranger to national attention; he was a competitor in Season Nine of the Bravo TV series Top Chef and has
previously been nominated by the James Beard Foundation for multiple awards.
Rhodes told USA Today that it’s an honor to be included on the list, especially considering that Catch has been a Wilmington favorite for 17 years. “We owe our longevity to our loving community, family, and our dedicated restaurant ‘family. We hope that our blueprint inspires many to dream big because dreams come true.”
When Rhodes and his wife opened Catch in 2006, they promised themselves that they would feature local seafood. North Carolina oysters are always on the menu at Catch, often served raw or fried. The crab cakes, one of the most popular items on the menu, are made with North Carolina crabmeat, along with oyster mushrooms and a cognac sauce. Catch also serves Gullah Geechee-inspired dishes, usually a mix of local seafood in a rich sauce served over Carolina Gold rice.
