Amazon has announced that this summer it will be shooting another show in the Wilmington area. The Runarounds is about a group of high-school teenagers who start a rock band, make an album, go on tour, and try to hit it big.
The show shot a pilot in Wilmington in 2022 and was picked for a first full season of production last month. It’s the creation of North Carolina native Jonas Pate who is best known for Netflix’s hit show “Outer Banks”
It turns out “The Runarounds” is areal-life band that formed in 2021. Pate met the group when he needed to hire a band to perform on Outer Banks. Most of the band members had no acting experience. Pate said it was essential to work with real musicians.
The show will star band members William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Zende Murdock, Jesse Golliher, and Jeremy Yun along with Pate’s daughter Lilah playing the lead female role.
Amazon has greenlit the show for an initial eight episodes. The production will hire 150 to 200 crew members, and will be shot this summer at a variety of locations around town. Pate however has said that production will not start until he wraps up shooting season 4 of “Outer Bank.s”
