Plans Call for 1,000 New Homes in Brunswick Forest
Brunswick Forest is one of the Cape Fear region’s largest planned communities. The nearly 5,000 acre master planned development along Highway 17 currently currently has just under 6,000 homes units. Now one developer wants to add another 1,000 homes to the community. Planner Ben Watts presented his proposal to Leland officials earlier this month. He wants to shift a 111 acre parcel near Mallory Creek and North Carolina 133 from commercial to residential zoning. While project designs haven’t been submitted to the Technical Review Committee yet, published reports indicate the new units would be a mix of single-family and townhomes. Leland planning board members voted 3-0 in favor of the proposal. The issue will now go in front of the entire town council
Brunswick County’s Wants to a new School to help with Overcrowding
The Brunswick County Board of Education has agreed to purchase 64-acres near the Jackey’s Creek community for a future school. The school district wants to build an elementary school that will serve 750 students. The exact price will change depending on the acreage on the final plot, but the initial agreed upon figure was just under $6 million. Once the land deal is closed the Brunswick County School will start the process of designing the new school and getting proper approval form planning and zoning committees.
