]Cape Fear residents are getting a glimpse of what the future may hold.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) recently held two public meetings to present three plans for the replacement of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and improvements to South Front Street.
NCDOT showcased three artist renderings of different designs. Only one plan features a center portion of the bridge that raises and lowers, similar to the current structure. The other two designs are for fixed bridges that do not have a drawbridge function.
The Transportation Department is still soliciting feed back. Comments can be submitted by phone at (984) 205-6615 — the project code for the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement is 10626 and the code for S. Front St. is 10422. Comments can also be sent via email to CFMB or S. Front Street.
