Every year, U.S. News & World Report releases its list of top-ranked elementary schools, highlighting institutions that excel at educating students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. This year’s list for 2025 features several elementary schools from the Wilmington area.
According to U.S. News & World Report, “The top-ranked schools are all high-achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students.”
Top-Ranked Schools in the Cape Fear Region

No. 7: Wrightsville Beach Elementary School
Wrightsville Beach Elementary earned its spot as the No. 7 school in the state. The school’s students excelled in core subjects, with 92% achieving proficiency or higher in math and 87% reaching the same level in reading. Approximately 9% of the student population is classified as economically disadvantaged.
No. 9: Masonboro Elementary School
Masonboro Elementary secured the No. 9 spot on the list. The school reported 93% of students achieving proficiency or higher in math, while 84% met or exceeded the proficiency benchmark in reading. Roughly 17% of the student body is considered economically disadvantaged.
No. 22: Union Elementary School
Located in Shallotte, Union Elementary ranked 22nd in the state. The school’s performance includes 89% of students achieving proficiency or higher in math and 80% in reading. Notably, 99% of Union’s student population is classified as economically disadvantaged, making its academic success particularly significant.
No. 24: Ogden Elementary School
Ogden Elementary secured the 24th spot on the list. Among its students, 88% achieved proficiency or higher in math, and 81% met or exceeded the proficiency benchmark in reading. About 16% of Ogden’s student population is classified as economically disadvantaged.
No. 49: Eaton Elementary School
Ranked 49th, Eaton Elementary’s students performed well in both math and reading. About 85% of students achieved proficiency or higher in math, while 76% met or exceeded the proficiency benchmark in reading. Approximately 29% of Eaton’s student body is classified as economically disadvantaged.
