Carolina Beach is gearing up for a major celebration this year as the town marks its 100th anniversary.
To honor this milestone, the Carolina Beach Mural Project is putting together a colorful and creative event called CB 100 MuralFest. Set to take place on May 17-18 at Carolina Beach Lake, the festival will feature the artistic talents of 16 artists and four local schools. Alongside the vibrant art, visitors can enjoy live music and food trucks, making it a true community celebration.
During the weekend, artists and students will transform large 4’ x 10’ plywood canvases into eye-catching murals. While artists from all over North Carolina are welcome to submit their ideas, preference will be given to those from New Hanover County. By the end of the weekend, 20 stunning new pieces of art will be ready to be displayed around the community throughout the summer.
For those who want to be part of this creative experience, the submission window is open until February 15. North Carolina artists can send in their proposals, and those selected will be announced on February 28. Chosen artists will receive a $400 stipend, plus 50% of the winning bid when their mural boards are auctioned off on September 8.
The festival is made possible in part by a grant from the Arts Council of Wilmington and the North Carolina Arts Council. The goal of CB 100 MuralFest is to spotlight the unique spirit and history of Carolina Beach. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the island’s iconic landmarks, notable figures, and memorable events. It’s an opportunity to create something that reflects the heart and history of this beloved beach town.
Whether you’re an artist looking for a chance to showcase your work or a community member eager to soak in the beauty and culture of Carolina Beach, CB 100 MuralFest promises to be a can’t-miss event. Get ready for a weekend filled with art, music, and food—all in celebration of a century of Carolina Beach history.
