New Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic Opens in Wilmington
Novant Health has opened its second Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in Wilmington, expanding access to quality healthcare for underserved communities. Located at 416 N. 30th St., the 7,300-square-foot facility features 12 patient rooms and a community health worker to connect patients with local resources. The success of the first Wilmington clinic, which served nearly 1,800 patients in its first nine months, helped drive this expansion. With convenient weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the new clinic aims to make finding a doctor easier for everyone, regardless of insurance status. Appointments can be scheduled starting Feb. 17 by calling 910-833-9140.
Pickleball Expansion Gets Approval for Wilmington Midtown Area.
Wilmington City Council has approved plans for The Club at Midtown, a redevelopment of the Holly Tree Racquet Club that will bring new indoor and outdoor pickleball courts to the 7.3-acre site. The project includes converting several tennis courts into 10 pickleball courts, building a 33,000-square-foot indoor facility, renovating the clubhouse, and adding more parking. To address neighborhood concerns, developers have agreed to noise reduction measures, restricted tournament play to indoor courts, and capped membership at 800. Plans also call for a 50-seat restaurant, pool renovations, and additional site improvements. The redevelopment is expected to increase traffic slightly but remain in line with the area’s current use.
MedNorth Breaks Ground On Clinic Expansion
MedNorth Health Center is expanding with a new two-story building at the corner of North Third and Bladen streets, adding 35,000 square feet to its campus. Construction began in December and is expected to be completed by March 2026. CEO Althea Johnson said the expansion will allow the clinic to serve more patients, improve operations, and add new services. The new facility will feature more medical exam rooms, additional dental operatories, and space for future services like physical and occupational therapy. Johnson emphasized that the project will enhance patient care while reinforcing MedNorth’s longstanding commitment to the community.
Could Wilmington get its own Professional Soccer Club?
A group called USL to Wilmington has raised roughly $400,000 to bring a professional soccer club to Wilmington. They estimate they still need an additional $8 to $10 million to make the dream a reality. The group aims to bring a third-tier team to the Port City (American pro soccer is divided into tiers, each with different stadium requirements; for example, USL League One stadiums typically seat at least 5,000). They are currently seeking investors. USL to Wilmington’s updated timeline is to secure a team by 2026—the year the U.S. hosts the World Cup—and begin competition in 2027.
