Wilmington is about to get its first-ever food truck park, and if all goes according to plan, it’ll be up and running by April.
Welcome to Chow Town, a permanent outdoor space where mobile eateries can set up shop and serve up some of the best bites in town. Located in the Brooklyn Arts District, this half-acre lot at 1101 N. Fourth St. has been under construction since last year, transforming into what’s soon to be the city’s newest dining destination.
The idea behind Chow Town is simple: up to six food trucks parked daily, serving lunch and dinner in an outdoor, communal setting. But it’s not just about the food—this spot is designed to be an experience. There will be picnic tables, lounge areas, and games like cornhole and ring-on-a-string to keep things fun. A stage is also in the works for live music and open mic nights, and there’s even talk of adding a mini putting green down the line.
To keep things interesting, the food truck lineup will rotate regularly, ensuring there’s always something new to try. Expect a mix of flavors, from burgers and tacos to sushi, barbecue, desserts, and more. And it’s not just food—Chow Town welcomes all kinds of mobile vendors, from artists selling pottery out of a van to small push carts slinging coffee or hot dogs.
On-site, two shipping containers will serve key functions: one will house a commissary kitchen for food trucks, and the other will be a beer and wine concession stand, complete with Chow Town merch.
The journey to opening hasn’t been without challenges. Power hook-ups delayed construction for months, and zoning approvals took time. But the finish line is finally in sight. Landscaping is nearly complete, and once that’s wrapped up, it’s just a matter of weeks before the grand opening.
Chow Town will be located behind Jelly Cabinet Bakery, right at the corner of Cowan and Fourth streets. Free street parking is available, and the park will be visible from Third Street as you enter downtown from MLK Parkway.
And for those wondering—yes, Chow Town plans to stay open year-round. Outdoor heaters will keep things cozy in the colder months, and there’s even talk of adding fire pits. In addition to daily food service, the park could host farmers markets, private events, and more.
