With 30 public courses and at least a dozen private clubs, the region is a golfer’s paradise. The local golf boom began in the early 1980s as an extension of Myrtle Beach’s rise as a golf destination.

Magnolia Greens Golf Course
Located in Leland, Magnolia Greens features 27 holes of championship golf designed by Tom Jackson. Known for its well-maintained fairways and fast greens, it’s a favorite among both locals and visitors.
Carolina National Golf Club
This 27-hole Fred Couples-designed course in Bolivia is set along the scenic Lockwood Folly River. Its three nine-hole layouts—Egret, Heron, and Ibis—offer a variety of challenges while showcasing the natural beauty of coastal Carolina.
Rivers Edge Golf Club and Plantation
Situated in Shallotte, Rivers Edge is an Arnold Palmer Signature Course that combines dramatic elevation changes with stunning views of the Shallotte River. It’s widely regarded as one of the top courses in the region.
Lion’s Paw & Panther’s Run Golf Links
Part of the Big Cats Courses at Ocean Ridge Plantation, these two distinct layouts provide different challenges. Lion’s Paw features wide fairways and deep bunkers, while Panther’s Run offers rolling terrain and scenic water hazards.
The Pearl Golf Links
Nestled along the Calabash River, The Pearl consists of two 18-hole courses—East and West—designed by Dan Maples. With coastal marsh views and well-manicured greens, it’s a must-play for golfers of all skill levels.
Thistle Golf Club
