New Hanover County’s Smith Creek Park is getting a big upgrade, with phase two of its expansion officially underway.
This next stage of development will bring some great new features, including a new entrance with parking off Gordon Road, a restroom, a picnic shelter, public art, and a 1-mile trail that will connect to the existing lake loop. There will also be nature play areas and environmental features to enhance the park’s outdoor experience.
To keep the construction site safe—especially after some recent vandalism—a temporary fence has been put up. The county understands this might impact nearby residents’ access, so they’re setting up a temporary walking path from Emerald Drive to the existing park. Plus, the Sheriff’s Office will be stepping up patrols and installing temporary security cameras in the area.
