As spring kicks into gear and temperatures start to climb, boating season is officially underway in the Wilmington area. April and May mark the perfect time to get out on the water—and it turns out, we’re not the only ones who think so.
According to a new report from Getmyboat, a popular platform for boat rentals and charters, Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington are among the top boating spots in North Carolina for 2025. Wrightsville Beach took the #2 spot, while Wilmington came in at #4, thanks to strong demand and booking data.
So, what makes these coastal gems such boating hotspots?
Wrightsville Beach is a boater’s paradise, with clear waters, sandy shores, and easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby Masonboro Island. Whether you’re heading out for a chill cruise, some offshore fishing, or just soaking up the sun, there’s something for every kind of water-lover. Yachts are the go-to rental here, making it a favorite for both casual boaters and luxury-seekers.
Wilmington brings a different kind of boating experience, with access to both the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. From sunset cruises to charter fishing trips, the city’s thriving tourism scene keeps the boat rental business buzzing all year long. Center console boats are especially popular here, perfect for exploring the area’s many hidden gems on the water.
For context, Lake Norman topped the list this year, with its 520 miles of shoreline, while Wake Forest came in third thanks to Falls Lake’s 12,000 acres of boating-friendly waters.
