Brunswick County’s Planning Board has given the green light to the Folly Hills Development, a 146-acre project near Southport that will bring 200 single-family homes to the area.
The proposal was praised by county officials as a well-planned addition to the growing community. However, not everyone is on board. Some nearby residents raised concerns about potential traffic congestion on Southport-Supply Road and how the added population could impact access to emergency services—especially during hurricanes or in the event of an emergency at the nearby nuclear power plant.
As Southport and surrounding areas continue to attract new residents and tourists alike, developments like Folly Hills highlight both the demand for housing and the challenges of keeping up with infrastructure needs.
