A new relocation study shows that the Southeast continues to be one of the most popular parts of the country for people planning a move in 2025.
Research from the moving website MoveBuddha analyzed more than 55,000 searches on its moving cost calculator during the first months of the year to determine where Americans are most interested in relocating. The results show a clear pattern: many movers are looking toward warmer climates and states known for lower costs of living and lifestyle appeal.
According to the analysis, South Carolina ranks as the most popular state for relocation in 2025, with more than twice as many people searching for moves into the state compared with moves out. The state also held the top position in the previous year, showing continued demand for relocating to the region.
Several other Southeastern states also rank near the top of the list, including Tennessee and North Carolina, which take the second and third spots respectively. The strong showing from these states highlights the broader migration trend toward the Southeast.
MoveBuddha’s research found that many Americans are considering moves to states that offer a mix of affordability, outdoor lifestyle, and milder climates compared with many parts of the country.
