First Units at Grand Bay Townhomes in Wilmington are Ready for Buyers  

Finishing touches are being put on the first set of units at Wilmington’s newest townhome community. The Grand Bay Townhomes are being developed by D.R. Horton.  When complete the community will include 72 townhomes with many overlooking the Cape Fear River. This amenity rich neighborhood offers a private boardwalk with gazebo and kayak launch, plus a community pool and clubhouse which are expected to be finished at the end of the summer. D.R. Horton is offering three different floorplans each with three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a one car garage. The units range in size from 1,492 to 1,895 square feet with prices starting in the $350,000.


Work well underway at Center Point of Wilmington

The ground has been cleared, the plans have been approved, and the first phase of a massive new community is underway near Wilmington’s Mayfaire area. The work is being done by Wilmington-based Swain & Associates and The Beach Company of South Carolina. The project known as Center Point will be a mixed use development with apartment homes, commercial store front properties and a hotel. The development will occupy roughly 23 acres on 1 million-square-feet near the intersection of Military Cutoff and Eastwood. Three of those acres will be used for a road extension that will link Military Cutoff to Eastwood via Drysdale Drive. The first phase of the project, construction of a 75-foot-high apartment complex with retail and restaurant space on the first floor, is expected to take at least one year.


Pender County goes Under Contract on Land for Future Schools 

The rapid growth in Pender County has created a need for new schools, and now officials have identified more than 1,000 acres for a potential new elementary and middle school facility. The current vacant lot is located off Highway 17 and N.C. 210.  The County made a purchase offer last month to buy the five parcel plot for $13.9 million. In addition to the schools the county is discussing building a reverse osmosis water treatment plant on the site.


After Five Years Finish Line in Sight for Military Cutoff Extension

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is promising that the long awaited Military Cutoff Road extension will be finished by the end of this summer. For five years, the DOT has been working to extend Military Cutoff from Market Street to N.C. 140.  The $106-million project is a year behind schedule and 11% percent over budget. The extension will have two lanes of traffic in each direction.  The project is designed to improve traffic and safety along the Market Street corridor between northern New Hanover County to eastern Pender County – which currently services an estimated 40,000 automobiles a day.


 

Dosher Memorial Hospital starts 7 year Renovation Plans

Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport is entering the first phase of a seven-year Master Facility Plan which included a new 8,000 square foot Emergency Department. The new ED space will include its own X-Ray, lab draw station, and registration desk. Plans also call for expansion of the waiting areas, and a new 2,000 square foot pharmacy. All of these projects are part of the first phase which is scheduled to be complete by 2026.
