Restaurants are Booming in Carolina Beach

April 1, 2024 By Just For Buyers Realty

Carolina Beach has been on a mission to shake off its old reputation and stride into a brand-new era.

Once upon a time, it was the place to be—the go-to spot for southern beach getaways. It understood the magic recipe: sprinkle in some sun, sand, and surf, and toss in a bustling boardwalk with shops, eateries, and amusements for good measure. Carolina Beach had it all.

But then, in the swingin’ ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, golf took the spotlight. Dads everywhere were on the hunt for vacation spots where they could tee off while the family soaked up the rays. Suddenly, Carolina Beach found itself playing second fiddle to the likes of Myrtle Beach, the Gulf Coast, and a slew of Florida hotspots.

And let’s face it, for a couple of decades—maybe even three—Carolina Beach kinda lost its shine. They started calling it “The Redneck Riviera,” a place folks settled for when their wallets couldn’t quite stretch to fancier destinations. During those years, even in the height of summer, the boardwalk lost its sparkle, the once-charming hotels fell into disrepair, and beloved attractions turned into eyesores.

But guess what? Carolina Beach is making a comeback, baby! In recent years, the town’s been working hard to revive its glory days. They’re sprucing up the boardwalk, adding new rides and shops, and guess who’s jumping back on the investment train? Yup, private companies are once again seeing Carolina Beach as the place to be. And get this—this summer, things are really heating up.

In this month’s JFB Growth Tracker, we’ve got the scoop on plans to build a swanky Embassy Suites hotel right near the boardwalk. Picture this: nearly 200 rooms, making it one of the biggest hotels in the county. Talk about making a statement!

And that’s not all. Hungry beachgoers are in for a treat this year, with a whole slew of new restaurants popping up along the Carolina Beach strip. Check out these mouthwatering additions:

  • Seaworthy Kitchen & Bar: Serving up scrumptious shrimp and grits and juicy bacon cheeseburgers, this spot at 604 N. Lake Park Blvd has been a hit since it opened its doors in January.
  • Remini’s Carolina Beach: With classic Italian favorites like spaghetti and meatballs alongside fresh coastal dishes, this joint at 102 Cape Fear Blvd has something for everyone.
  • Puffy’s Magic Dragon: Offering a fusion of Asian flavors in a super cool dragon-themed setting, Puffy’s (304 N. Lake Park Blvd) is all about fresh ingredients and unique dishes like Crab Rangoon pizza.
  • Fentoni’s Pizza: After a bit of a shuffle, this beach favorite is back in business, serving up slices at 1018 N. Lake Park Blvd with another location on the boardwalk coming soon.
  • Putter Pub: Mini golf meets brews at this fun spot (801 St. Joseph Street), where you can putt your way to victory before grabbing a cold one at the indoor bar.
  • The Tropical: Set to open in May, this spot will serve up egg rolls, bowls, and frozen drinks across three levels, including a rooftop bar with killer ocean views.
  • Basil’s Coastal Italian: Coming soon to 1204 N. Lake Park Blvd, this seafood-focused Italian joint promises house-made pastas and plenty of grab-and-go goodies.
  • Brunches: Get ready for breakfast and lunch done right at this Wilmington-born eatery, opening in late May near the intersection of Carl Winner Drive and Lake Park Blvd.

So there you have it, folks. Carolina Beach isn’t just back—it’s better than ever. So grab your flip-flops and sunscreen, because this summer, the beach is calling your name!
