Grab your broomsticks—well, paddleboards—and get ready to make some magic on the water! Witches Paddle 2025 is splashing into Wrightsville Beach on Saturday, October 11, inviting paddleboarders of all levels to don their witchy best and glide across the Intracoastal Waterway for a cause that matters.
This whimsical paddle kicks off with a two-mile trek to Palm Tree Island for a group photo and then back to the launch. Along the way, you’ll see boards decked out with cobwebs, cauldrons, and maybe even a flying black cat or two. Prizes will be awarded for:
-
Best Dressed Witch
-
Best Dressed Witch – Runner-Up
-
Best Decorated Board

Best Decorated Board – Runner-Up
Each winner will receive a gift basket filled with goodies generously donated by local businesses. For those looking to go all out as a duo, Wrightsville SUP has a limited number of tandem kayaks available—perfect for a spellbinding team entrance.
While the costumes and creativity are all in good fun, this event carries a deeper purpose. All proceeds benefit Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc., an organization that has served survivors and their children in New Hanover County for nearly 40 years. Funds raised help provide emergency housing, counseling, advocacy, and resources to those rebuilding their lives free from abuse.
Whether you’re an experienced paddler or brand-new to the sport, this is a welcoming, family-friendly way to spend your morning. Expect laughter, encouragement, and plenty of photo-worthy moments as the waterway fills with pointy hats, striped stockings, and the occasional friendly warlock.
Registration is open now—so grab your board (or snag a kayak), pick out your best costume, and be part of a community coming together to create change while having a blast.
