Figure Eight Island currently has 475 homes on its 1,300 acres, 90% of which are second homes to some of the country’s business and industry titans. Over the years, celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Alec Baldwin, and Dustin Hoffman have vacationed here, while homeowners have included Senator John Edwards, John Mack (former CEO of Morgan Stanley), and J. Eric Pike, the President and CEO of Pine Energy Solutions.
As you might expect, the community is extremely private and protected from the public. Because the island has no commercial property, residents must leave the island to access all businesses such as grocery stores, banks, and restaurants. The one exception is the private Figure Eight Yacht Club (described below).
Those who live on Figure Eight Island value the natural setting which remains predominantly marshland. The homeowners association is committed to conserving the island’s nature and wildlife. For example, sea turtle nests are monitored on a daily basis during the summer and endangered plants and animals are regularly surveyed and protected.

The community is managed by the Figure 8 Beach Homeowners Association. As of July 2015, the HOA dues are $423.75 a month, which covers common area maintenance, road maintenance, management fees, security, trash removal, and master insurance policy.
The island’s Yacht Club is available to only island residents and homeowners. The Yacht Club has a host of amenities like a swimming pool, tennis courts, playground, marina, dock and ramp, fitness facility, and its own restaurant. Membership in the Yacht Club is not included in the HOA fees and requires separate payment.

Figure Eight Island is about a 5 minute drive to the Porter’s Neck shopping center area. There are several restaurants to choose from including Kornerstone Bistro, K38 Baja Grill, Two Guys Grille and more. Other conveniences are in the Porter’s Neck area include Lowe’s Home Improvement store, Harris Teeter, and a brand-new Wal-Mart. Figure 8 Island is about a 15 minute drive to the shopping of Mayfaire Town Center, which includes many retailers, restaurants, and a movie theater.
