Pelican Reef is a gated community located off Highway 17 in Hampstead. It’s a large neighborhood with more than 225 properties. The first homes were built in the mid 90’s and the most recent homes were constructed in 2020.
This is a waterfront community with some of the homes sitting off the Virginia Sound. Residents have access to a kayak launch and boat corral.
Unlike many communities where the developer starts construction by knocking down a bunch of trees, the people who designed Pelican Reef made an effort to preserve nature. The streets are lined with mature trees giving homeowners much needed shade in the summer and beautiful colors in the fall and winter.
Several homes in Pelican Reef measure more than 4,000 square feet. These tend to offer four or five bedrooms and sit on large lots between one and two acres. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the community also has cottage style homes and patio homes that measure between 1,200 and 1,600 square feet and sit on a quarter to a third of an acre.
Community amenities include a clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis courts, community dock and a fitness center.
Pelican Reef is located in the Topsail School District, considered by many to be one of the best in the state. The district includes North Topsail Elementary, Topsail Middle and Topsail High School.
