The Widgeons is a townhome and patio home community located off Country Club Drive in Hampstead. The thing is few people know the community by that name.
Here is the problem; the neighborhood is located directly next-door to the Olde Point Golf Course. Across the street is another, much larger development, that is simply called Olde Point and people naturally clump this development in with that one. Residents do it when referring to the area, and listing agents do it too when putting homes on the market. Virtually no one uses the proper title The Widgeons.
We’re going to add to the confusion by dividing the area up into two sections.
The garden home section was built in the early 90’s. There are roughly 30 homes in this part of The Widgeons. Some are brick, others have a brown siding exterior. They range in size from 1,400 square feet up to 2,500 square feet. The smaller properties offer two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The larger homes are a three and three combination with some also offering a sunroom. All of the garden homes have a two car garage, and the annual HOA fees cover the lawn maintenance.
The townhomes make up the other section of The Widgeons. There is a total of 50 townhomes. They were built in the mid 1980’s. They too come in two or three bedroom units, measuring between just under 1,400 square feet to just over 1,700 square feet and include a one car garage.
Many of the townhomes overlook the 17th hole of the golf course. The ones closer to the tee box have a light brown exterior while the ones closer to the green have a blue/gray exterior.
The Widgeons features a couple of ponds, but lacks the amenities of other areas. Some residents choose to purchase the pool and tennis package offered by the Olde Point Golf Course which is in walking distance.
Both the garden homes and townhomes are located in the Hampstead Elementary, Topsail Middle and Topsail High school district.
